Men's Rowing Adds Four-Race Sweep of WSU

WAWAWAI LANDING, Wash. - Gonzaga's men's rowing put together a dominating performance at Washington State on Saturday at Wawawai Landing, Wash.

The GU Varsity 8 pulled away from Washington State throughout the last 1,500 meters on the way to a 22-second victory with a time of 6:44.79. That led to a Zag sweep of the four-race regatta.

"The Zags raced well today," head coach Dan Gehn said. "The Varsity 8 was a tight race up to 500 [meters] in. We started to move through and they caught a hard crab. The Snake [River] is unforgiving when it comes to conditions."

The Second Varsity 8 turned in a similar performance, defeating the Cougars by 20 seconds with a time of 6:58.6.

Gonzaga's Third Varsity 8 and Novice 8 each turned victories as well. The 3V8 had the largest margin of victory with a 25-second win in a time of 7:14.70 while the N8 team earned a seven-second win in a time of 7:01.07.

The Gonzaga men's rowing team will now have a lengthy break from competition, returning on April 16 in Philadelphia, Pa., for the Kerr Cup.
