Women's Cross Climbs to Ninth in Region

NEW ORLEANS -- The Gonzaga women's cross country team rose to No. 9 in the USTFCCCA West Region ranking Monday. The Zag men moved to 12th in the latest poll.
After a successful showing at the West Coast Conference Preview/Erik Anderson Invitational, the GU women went from 10th to ninth in the ranking. It's the highest regional ranking the Bulldog women have been in the poll in five years.
Gonzaga flipped spots with fellow conference-member Portland. GU finished second as a team in the WCC Preview, one point from first place BYU. The Cougars remained third in Mountain Region.
In the men's poll, the Zags slid from 11th to 12th after their second place finish at the WCC Preview. The BYU men also stayed at No. 3 in their respective region following their first place finish at the WCC Preview.
The top eight spots in the women's poll remained the same, while there was no movement in the top four spots of the men's ranking. For the third straight week, the Stanford women and men topped the rankings, followed by Oregon in both polls.
The Bulldogs have a week off before traveling to Seattle for the Washington Invitational on Oct. 2. The races will be run at the Jefferson Golf Course, the same course that will host the NCAA Western Regional on Nov. 13.
