PORTLAND, Ore. -- Gonzaga's women's rowing team took victories in four races at the Portland Fall Classic on Sunday in downtown Portland, Ore.
Racing on the Willamette River that snakes through the downtown area, Gonzaga entered five boats in the event and won all of them with the exception of one scratch on the day.
"All of the crews are pleased with how they did," head coach Glenn Putyrae said. "They are excited to get back to work and get more speed for next week when the competition ramps up a lot."
In the Varsity 8 race, GU took a 29-second victory over second-place Portland with a time of 17:27.74 from the crew of Karly Dougherty, Kara Soucek, Devyn Bell, Lauren English, Ingrid Stansberry, Maddie Turbes, Brooklyn Beeler, Olivia Marsh and Madeleine Verspieren. Seattle U. finished third in the race.
