"It was another ideal fall day for racing on the Spokane River," head coach Mark Voorhees said. "I'm really proud of how the entire team competed today. Everyone learned something and we had some great performances that we can keep building on as we head down to the Head of the American next weekend. Thanks to all of the family, friends, and alumni who came out to support Zag Rowing and to WSU for making the trip up and always pushing us to be better."
The Bulldogs highlighted the morning with a second-place finish in the women's collegiate eights, as Gonzaga's varsity eight crossed the finish line in 17:51, just two seconds behind Washington State's winning boat (17:49). Gonzaga's second varsity eight finished fourth overall in 18:49, followed by the third varsity eight in fifth (19:11) and fourth varsity eight in sixth (19:50). The novice eight rounded out the event in seventh place with a time of 22:01.
In the women's collegiate fours, Gonzaga's top varsity four finished second overall with a time of 19:32, just eight seconds behind Washington State's winning boat (19:24). The Bulldogs' third varsity four placed fifth in 19:57, while the second varsity four finished sixth in 20:06. Gonzaga's fourth varsity four followed in seventh at 20:22.
Gonzaga also demonstrated its depth in the women's collegiate pairs, fielding nine entries in the event. The Bulldogs' top pair of Kate Nazar and Lia Brackney led the way with a second-place finish in 20:42, behind Washington State's winning pair (19:53).
Jenna Kleckler and Caroline Burns added a fifth-place finish in 20:57, while Lily Spillane and Kana Barlag placed seventh (21:01). Keeva O'Neel and Isabella Romain followed in eighth (21:04), with Alli Krilich and Cecilia Twito finishing 10th (21:11).
The regatta provided valuable racing experience for Gonzaga's returning athletes and newcomers as the Bulldogs continued to develop their lineups and build momentum during the fall season.UP NEXT
