THOUGHTS ON FROM NOVICE COACH KARI DURGAN ON UPCOMING WIRA CHAMPIONSHIPS: "It was extremely competitive between the novices to make this boat, and I'm really excited to see the caliber of performance that this crew will produce. The entire novice squad has been incredibly patient, determined, and committed this spring, and they've been looking forward to this race for a long time. I'm pleased with not only the technical progress they've made in the last few weeks, but also the way they've handled the competition among themselves to get to this point. Our goal this weekend is to execute races that are representative of their effort, improvements, and commitment to being an important part of Gonzaga Rowing."
LAST YEAR AT THE WIRA CHAMPIONSHIPS: The Gonzaga University women's rowing Novice 8+ won gold at the 2013 Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships. It earned first in their heat race on the opening day and went on to claim the top spot in the Grand Final. The Zags crossed the finish line in 7:00.4. Seven seconds later San Diego State finished with a time of 7:07.2. Oregon Coast College won bronze in 7:09.9.
