Women's Rowing Picked To Win 2014 WCC Championship

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University has been selected to win the 2014 West Coast Conference women's rowing championship in a preseason poll of the WCC's seven head coaches.
The defending WCC Champion Bulldogs earned 35 points and five first place votes, while 2012 WCC Champion University of San Diego followed with 27 points and two first place votes for the second place spot.
Loyola Marymount University collected 24 points for third place, while Saint Mary's College was just two points behind with 22. The University of Portland (17 points), Creighton University (10 points), and Santa Clara University (7 points) rounded out the poll.
Along with being named preseason favorite, the Zags had four rowers named to the preseason All-West Coast Conference team. Making the list was sophomore Brooklyn Beeler, senior Malori McGill - for the second-consecutive year, sophomore Kara Soueck and sophomore Maddie Turbes.
Beeler, McGill and Soueck were members of the Varsity 8+ that placed first at the West Coast Conference Championship a season ago, while Turbes is coming off a win in the Open Event at the C.R.A.S.H. B Sprints, held at Boston University in mid-February.
The WCC Championship is set for Saturday, May 17 at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center at Lake Natoma outside Sacramento, Calif.
