Barad, Milam Lead Zags Cross Country WCC All-Academic Picks

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University women's runner Becca Barad and men's runner Willie Milam have been named to the West Coast Conference Cross Country All-Academic team announced by WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich.
In addition, four Bulldog men and four Bulldog women earned honorable mention All-Academic recognition. Chris Boyle, Brent Felnagle, Robert Walgren and Andrew Walker represent the Bulldog men on the honorable mention list while Krista Beyer, Lindsey Drake, Emily Thomas and Lara Tuthill were selected on the women's side.
Barad, a sophomore from Colorado Springs, Colo., has a 3.91 GPA in environmental studies. She posted a season-best 6K of 22:49.52 at the West Coast Preview Meet in Portland, Ore., and a season-best 5K of 18:24 at the Bill Dellinger Invitational hosted by the University of Oregon.
Milam, a junior from Portland, Ore., has a 3.80 GPA in business administration. He finished 38th in the WCC Championship, covering the 8K layout in 25:21.44 to help the Bulldogs place third. He had a season-best 8K time of 24:L34.30 at the Bill Dellinger Invitational.
Boyle, a senior from Seattle, Wash., has a 3.25 GPA in mathematics. He finished 27th in this year's WCC Championship. Felnagle, a junior from Tacoma, Wash., has a 3.56 GPA in psychology. He placed 21st in the WCC Championship. Walgren has a 3.20 GPA in mechanical engineering. The native of Anchorage, Alaska, finished 30th in the WCC Championship. Walker, a senior from Seattle, Wash., has a 3.68 GPA in history.
Beyer has a 3.82 GPA in civil engineering. The junior from Seattle, Wash., finished 55th in the WCC Championship. Drake has a 3.73 GPA in biology and earned All-WCC honors this season with her ninth-place finish in the WCC Championship in leading the Bulldogs to fourth place. Thomas, a junior from Washougal, Wash., has a 3.57 GPA in human physiology and placed 19th in the WCC Championship. Tuthill, a sophomore from Boise, Idaho, finished 43rd at the WCC Championship.
The Bulldogs will be in action this Friday at the NCAA West Regional at Franklin Park in Seattle, Wash.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered in the sport of men's cross country, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, be a significant contributor to his team and participate in at least 50 percent of all contests, and have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing with at least one year in residence at the nominating institution.
