Ranked 17th in the 2012 recruiting class and 47th overall by Golfweek, Santos brings quite a resume to Gonzaga.
She finished third in the 2011 American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Junior Challenge in Oak Valley, Calif., with rounds of 69-74-71, and placed ninth at both the 2011 AJGA Ping Phoenix Junior (75-68-75) and at the 2011 AJGA Mission Hills Desert Junior (74-77-73). She had Top 10 finishes in all five AJGA events she played in 2010. She also garnered the No. 1 ranking in the Southern California PGA Toyota Cup Division with two wins and two runner-up finishes in four events.
The last two years of the LA City Junior Tournament she placed second this past summer with rounds of 71-74-71 and fourth in 2010 (68-78-68). She also placed second in the US Women's Publinks Qualifier earlier this year in Mira Loma, Calif., with a 72 and participated in the 35th U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort - Old Macdonald in Bandon, Ore. She also placed eighth in the 2011 Girls Junior Americas Cup with scores of 72-77-69.
In addition to dominating the Desert League MVP race, she captured Desert Valley League Tournament medalist honors in three of her four years and this past season was the medalist in 18 of 20 high school matches.
"I am extremely excited to be adding Raychelle to our program. She is the lowest ranked player that has ever chosen to play golf at Gonzaga," Rickel said. "She is an incredibly accomplished golfer and has had success at the national level. She is exactly the kind of person and player we have been trying to recruit at Gonzaga; a great student, great golfer and great person. Raychelle will help us make that next step into the national picture in women's golf."
Santos joins Angela Erika De Silva who earlier had signed a letter-of-intent to join the Bulldogs in the fall.
