SAMMAMISH, Wash. - Gonzaga University's women's golf team was a little more erratic during Tuesday's second round of the 30th annual Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational women's golf tournament at Sahalee Country Club, and as a result the Bulldogs dropped a couple of spots in the standings.
The Bulldogs, who shot a 305 Monday for their third lowest round of the season, came in with a 316 Tuesday and is at 621 after 36 holes and in eighth place. Gonzaga is just one shot out of seventh, five out of sixth and 10 out of fifth heading into Wednesday's final round that tees off at 8 a.m.
Victoria Fallgren shot a 6-over par 78 Tuesday for a 36-hole total of 151 to lead the Zags and is tied for 11th after being knotted for fourth heading into the round. Unlike Monday when Fallgren had four birdies in her round on her way to a 1-over 73, she had six bogeys and no birdies Tuesday. She is still in position to finish high with a strong round Wednesday as she is just one shot out of ninth, two out of seventh and three out of sixth.
Tai Jade 'TJ' Kliebphipat is tied for 29th after a 79 Tuesday to go with an opening-round 76 to leave her at 155. Han Wu is at 157 after rounds of 80-77 and Alice Kim is at 158 with rounds of 76-82.
The Bulldogs had six birdies from their top four players Monday and only three birdies from the top four scorers on Tuesday to go with 15 bogeys and five double-bogeys. The Bulldogs had no double-bogeys from their top four players Monday.
"It was a bad day today. We lost our way, didn't stick to our strategies and it hurt us," Gonzaga head coach Brad Rickel said. "We need to show we have learned from today. We need to rise to the occasion tomorrow. We can still finish strong."
But Gonzaga wasn't the only school unable to put together solid back-to-back rounds. First-day leader Oregon State University entered Tuesday's round with a 1-stroke lead and walked off the 6,083-yard, par 72 layout in fifth place 16 shots off the lead. The University of Colorado and University of California, tied for second entering the day, took advance of OSU's collapse and share the 36-hole lead at 595, one stroke ahead of the University of Oregon and two ahead of host University of Washington.
Cassy Isagawa of Oregon and Jennifer Yang Washington share the individual lead at 143 for a 2-stroke advantage over Alex Stewart of Colorado. Yang shot a 70 and Isagawa a 71 Tuesday.
