Gonzaga Women Finish Ninth At Cowgirl Classic

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Gonzaga University's women's golf team shot its best round of the season Tuesday with a 296 and had a pair of golfers finish in the top 20 at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic.
The Bulldogs finished with a 54-hole score of 921 and finished ninth after being in a four-way logjam for the ninth spot following Monday's 36 holes. The University of Texas-El Paso won the title with an 883 for a 16-stroke advantage over Colorado State University.
Jessica Howe and Rachel Sibbitt turned in strong rounds Tuesday over the 6,108-yard, par 72 Ocotillo Golf Club layout. Sibbitt had an even-par 72 and Howe a 1-over 73 as the duo finished in a five-way tie for 19th. Howe shot 78-76 and Sibbitt 77-78 in Monday's 36 holes. Stephanie Corey had a 76 to finish at 233 after Monday's rounds of 75-82.
"We had the kind of day we should be having. Rachel and Jessica were solid throughout. We need to be more consistent in our rounds," Rickel said. "We proved we can play with the best, but we need to do it for three straight rounds."
Stephanie Kim of Northern Arizona University shot a second straight 74 to go with an opening-round 68 for a 54-hole total of 216 to claim the individual title with a 2-shot victory over Britney Yada of Portland State University.
The tournament was the final tune-up for the Bulldogs prior to the West Coast Conference Championship April 19-20 at Hiddenbrooke Golf Course in Vallejo, Calif.
