Women's Golf Lacks Birdies In Challenge At Onion Creek

AUSTIN, Texas - Gusting winds Monday played a factor during the first two rounds of the Challenge at Onion Creek women's golf tournament, and Gonzaga University's team didn't escape the elements.
Scores were high in the first round as few golfers hovered around par 70 on the 5,944-yard course, while players had more success in the afternoon second round.
Freshman Tai Jade `TJ' Kliebphipat had the best day for the Bulldogs, rebounding for a 1-over par 71 after an opening round 79 to stand at 150 and a tie for 39th after 36 holes. Victoria Fallgren shot 78-74 for 152 and Stephanie Corey posted a 154 with rounds of 78-76.
After an opening round that saw her struggle with six bogeys and two double bogeys, Kliebphipat offset four bogeys with three birdies. Gonzaga had just 13 birdies in the 36 holes.
Coastal Carolina University stands at 574 for a 1-shot lead over 27th-ranked Iowa State University and the University of Michigan. Gonzaga is at 614 in 14th for a 6-stroke lead over host Texas State University San Marcos.
Min Yean Tan of Michigan is the individual leader heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes, shooting 70-67 for a 3-under par 137 and a 1-stroke lead over a pair of golfers.
