Volcheff, Walker, Courtney Garner Second Place Finishes At Whitworth

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University's track team turned in several strong performances Saturday at the Buc Scoring Invitational hosted by Whitworth College.
Laura Volcheff finished second in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase in 11:45. 21, just behind Emily Morehouse of Whitworth who won in 11:43.26. Lindsey Drake finished third in the women's 800 for the Bulldogs in 2:26.51, and Molly Funk was fifth in the women's 1,500 meters in 5:05.14.
On the men's side, Andrew Walker and Matt Bejar finished second and third, respectively, in the men's 5,000 meters. Walker was timed in 15:09.75 while Bejar finished in 15:11.78 in the race won by Nicholas Gallagher of the host Pirates in 15:08.67. Brandon Courtney was second in the men's 400 intermediate hurdles in 59.60. Jared Graham finished third in the men's 800 meters in 1:59.58 on the heels of Whitworth's Tyler Alsin who won in 1:58.44.
