Bulldog Women Second At Montana Invitational Cross Country

MISSOULA, Mont. - Gonzaga University men's and women's cross country teams finished tightly bunched Saturday at the Montana Invitational hosted by the University of Montana.
The Bulldog women, led by Corrina O'Brien and Kayla Lloyd finishing in the top 10, finished second with 52 points. The host Lady Griz won the women's race with 23 points.
On the men's side the Bulldogs finished fifth with 129 points, Montana State University capturing the title with 27 points.
O'Brien and Lloyd were each timed in 18:52 over the 5K course. The next five Bulldogs were tightly bunched. Molly Funk was 12th in 18:55, Brenn Donnelly was 13th in 18:57, Lauren Bergam was 15th in 19:01, Elizabeth Slamkowski was 16th in 19:05 and Brittany O'Regan was 18th in 19:12.
The women's individual title went to Katrina Drennan of Montana in 17:52.
The men were even more bunched, paced by the 20th-place finish of Chris Boyle in 26:10 over the 8K layout. Six other Bulldogs finished in the top 30 - Tate Kelly 23rd in 26:20, Brett Withers 24th in 26:24, Patrick Richie 25th in 26:25, Christian Burger 27th in 26:27, Matt Bejar 28th in 26:28 and Brad Kachigan 29th in 26:30.
Matthew Atkinson-Adams of MSU captured the men's race in 24:43.
Gonzaga will return to action Oct. 17 at the Vandal Jamboree hosted by the University of Idaho, the final tune-up prior to the Bulldogs competing in the West Coast Conference Championship Oct. 31.
