Women's Golf Struggles In Spring Opener

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Gonzaga University's women's golf team opened the spring season Monday at the Spartan Invitational, the Bulldogs shooting a 36-hole total of 675 for last place in the 15-team field heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes.
There were few bright spots for the Bulldogs as nobody shot better than 80 over the par 72 Almaden Country Club that played to 6,179 yards.
Rachel Sibbitt was the top Bulldog, shooting 80-82 for 162 and a tie for 57th. He 80 was the best round of the day for Gonzaga.
Host San Jose State University holds a 2-stroke lead over the University of California, the Spartans shooting 596. UC Irvine is third at 600.
Selanee' Henderson of UC Irvine is the individual leader at 143 after rounds of 71-72. She holds a 1-shot lead over Pia Halbig of Cal.
