LINCOLN, Neb. - Gonzaga University sophomore Brandon Crick of McCook, Neb., holds a 6-shot lead halfway through the 72-hole 99th Nebraska Amateur at Firethorn Golf Club.
Crick sits at 2-under par 140 following rounds of 69-71. First round co-leader Ben Tewes of Lincoln shot 77 and is in second along with a trio of golfers including Nebraska match play champion, John Hurley of O'Neill.
Crick, the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year this past spring, led last year's championship after the first round, eventually finishing second. Tewes is a junior-to-be at Southern Methodist University.
The field of 142 golfers was trimmed to 57 players that finished at 15-over-par 157 or better. Those individuals will compete Wednesday and Thursday to determine the 2007 Nebraska Amateur champion.
Third round action takes place Wednesday beginning at 7:30 a.m. CDT off the first tee. The leaders will tee off at 10:30 a.m. CDT.
