Women's Golf Sixth After Opening Round

SEBRING, Fla. - Gonzaga University was in sixth place after 18 holes of the Northern Illinois University Springlake Invitational on Friday, the Bulldogs shooting a 306 over the Springlake Golf Course layout.
Mary Kate Morgan paced the Bulldogs with a 75 while Gonzaga also got strong play from Jennifer Swanson (76), Sarah Sheffield (77), Lauren Phillips (78) and Lacey Jo Manwaring (80). All are within the top 10 as there was a five-player logjam for ninth at 74.
Nova Southeastern leads the team race with a 293 for a 6-shot edge over Barry University. Johanna Saderstrom of Barry is the first-day leader with a 67 for a 1-stroke lead over Brittany Bertilson of Florida Gulf Coast.
Play concludes Saturday.
