COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Gonzaga University's men's golf team opened the season Saturday at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, standing tied for 11th after 36 holes.
The Bulldogs shot a 599 to tie Utah Valley State University for 11th, one stroke behind the University of Wyoming in 10th at 598 and five strokes behind Southern Utah Valley University at 594 and in ninth. Host Air Force Academy leads at 567 for a 13-shot lead over the University of California at 580. Boise State University is well back in third at 585.
Gonzaga junior Jimmy Hayes is tied for 25th with a 36-hole total of 148 over the 7,301-yard, par 72 Eisenhower Golf Course - Blue Course. Junior John Bergren was tied for 31st with a 149 and sophomore Trevor Loe is tied for 41st at 151.
Graham Delaet of Boise State University is the individual leader at 137, good for a four-stroke lead over a pair of golfers entering Sunday's final 18 holes.
