Women's Golf Finishes 9th At Bobcat Desert Classic

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The Gonzaga University women's team shot a 313 on Wednesday afternoon as the Bulldogs finished with a total score of 933 good for 9th place at the Bobcat Desert Classic played at Palm Valley Golf Course. Gonzaga was tied for 8th heading into the final round after a second-round 308. Gonzaga finished four strokes behind West Coast Conference rival the University of Portland at 929. The University of Idaho won the three day event with an 888 followed by Boise State University in second and Montana State University and the University of North Texas tied for third.
Gonzaga freshman Lacey Jo Manwaring was the top Bulldogs finisher in a tie for 25th after a final round 81. Manwaring opened the tournament on Monday in a seven-way tie for second before dropping into a tie for sixth yesterday. Mary Kate Morgan fired her second consecutive round of 75 to move into 27th. Sarah Sheffield was tied for 34th with Jennifer Swanson in a tie for 62nd and Sarah Clarke finishing at 73rd.
Renee Skidmore of Idaho won individual honors with her second round of 70 to finish the tournament at one-under par. Second round leader Katie Street of Boise State was second after a final day 76. Opening round leader Jody Chandonnet of Grand Canyon College finished the event in 26th.
Gonzaga will continue its spring break play on Friday and Saturday at the NIU Springlake Invite in Florida.
