SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University head women's golf coach Robert Gray has announced the addition of two golfers for the 2004-05 school year. Signing national letters of intent to play for the Bulldogs are Sarah Sheffield of Kea'au, Hawaii, and Lacey Jo Manwaring of Blackfoot, Ida. The two players will join a young Gonzaga team after the Bulldogs graduated four seniors from a team that recently finished fourth at the West Coast Conference Championships.
Sheffield has played four years of golf at Kea'au High finishing 15th at the Hawaii State Championships in 2003 shooting rounds of 80 and 78 at the Waikolao Beach Course. In the spring of 2004 Sheffield has won two individual tournaments with five Top 10 finishes to her credit. She was named first-team All-Big Island Interscholastic Federation and won the 2003 Big Island Stroke Play Championship. She will compete in the 2004 Hawaii State Championships in mid-May.
Manwaring currently plays golf at Blackfoot High where she earned first team All-District VI honors as a junior after winning the District Championship. Manwaring went on to finish fourth at the Idaho 4A State Golf Championships and will compete in the 2004 event in mid-May. Already this season she has captured the Madison Invitational Championship.
