Women's Golf Sixth At NIU Springlake Classic

SEBRING, Fla. - Four Gonzaga University players fired rounds in the 70's as the Bulldogs sit in sixth place after the first round of the NIU Springlake Classic at Springlake Country Club in Sebring, Fla. Freshman Mary Kate Morgan stands tied for fourth place after a round of 74. Three other Gonzaga players finished with rounds of 79 as GU shot a team score of 311.

Following Morgan for the Bulldogs were the trio of Carrie DeGree, Kelsey Posedel and Jennifer Swanson, each player shooting a round of 79 to stand tied for 24th. Erin Picht was the Bulldogs fifth golfer shooting a round of 81 to sit in 39th.

Xavier University and Florida Gulf Coast lead the team scoring with a 299 while UC Riverside is third at 305. Gonzaga is four strokes behind Barry University and the University of West Florida both having team scores of 307.

Lindsey Snowden of UC Riverside and Jill Stein of Xavier stand tied for the individual lead with rounds of 71. Holley Eaton of Florida Gulf Coast is third with a 73, one-stroke better than a five-way tie for fourth. Competition continues on Saturday morning.
