SAN JOSE, Calif. - Brian Ching has been named the 2004 San Jose Earthquakes Honda Most Valuable Player. The Kamehameha High School and Gonzaga University graduate also was the team's scoring champion.
Ching, a 26-year-old striker who recently signed a long-term contract, led the Earthquakes with 12 goals and 28 points. He also had four assists. He was tied for first in goals scored during Major League Soccer's regular season and finished third in points and points per match.
Ching is a finalist for the MLS Comeback Player of the Year award. The only player from Hawaii in the league, his 2003 season was cut short by a ruptured right Achilles tendon.
The other finalists are Jamie Moreno (DC United), and Ronnie O'Brien (Dallas Burn).
