Men's Golf Shows Improvement In Second Round

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Gonzaga University's men's golf team showed improvement Saturday in the second round of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite hosted by the U.S. Air Force Academy.

The Bulldogs cut seven strokes off Friday's first round to come in with a 303 on Saturday and a 36-hole total of 613 over the par 72, 7,301-yard Eisenhower-Blue Course. Although that effort didn't let the Bulldogs escape the cellar in the 18-team field, it did put Gonzaga in position to move up during Sunday's final 18 holes. The Bulldogs trail West Coast Conference foe University of San Diego by one stroke, Southern Colorado University by four strokes and the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs by seven shots.

A pair of Bulldogs shot 74 on Saturday, Adam Syverson coming in with a 2-over par round to go with an opening round 77 for a 36-hole total of 151. Stu Bell also had a second-round 74 for a two-day total of 154. Syverson and Souta Nozaka, who followed Friday's 74 with a 77 on Saturday, are the top Bulldogs at 151 and in a eight-way tie for 54th.

The University of New Mexico JV leads the team race with a 567 for a two shot lead over the University of Texas-San Antonio.

Mike Mezei of UTSA leads the individual chase with a 36-hole total of 137 for a two shot lead over Kenny Ebalo of Southern Utah University and Luke Swilor of the University of Utah.
