Women's Cross Country Picked Second In WCC Coaches Poll

SPOKANE, Wash. - The University of Portland was chosen to sweep the 2001 West Coast Conference championships by taking the top spot both the men's and women's coaches poll. The Pilots have won the men's race for the past 22 years while the Portland women's program has won five consecutive championships.
In the women's poll, Gonzaga was selected to finish second after the Zags finished second in the 2000 WCC Championships. Santa Clara and Pepperdine followed in third and fourth position. Saint Mary's, which received one first-place vote, finished fifth in the voting while San Diego, San Francisco and Loyola Marymount rounded out the women's side.
In the men's poll, Santa Clara and San Diego were selected second and third while Gonzaga followed closely behind in fourth position. The Saint Mary's men also received a first-place vote to finish fifth with Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount and San Francisco completing the men's poll.
