EDPE 195: New Athlete Orientation |
Class Overview |
Through different workshops, EDPE 195 was created to establish strong personal, social and academic habits that will ultimately lead to success for our student athletes. One night each week, students are required to attend the EDPE 195 class for workshop material and community building. Each freshman meets weekly with a member of the Academics Services staff to ensure that the transition to Gonzaga University, and the life of a Division I student athlete, is a positive one. We hope these early relationships provide a strong foundation for the rest of their time at Gonzaga, encouraging personal development, independence and the tools they will need to be successful along the way. |
The ZagOlympics program began in response to the 2015-16 Student-Athlete Leadership Institute and their collaborative goal to improve departmental
unification. This program focuses on a community building initiative, one that unifies the student-athletes amongst all 18 varsity teams. Hosted within the
departmental course of EDPE 195 – New Athlete Orientation, freshmen student-athletes make up mixed athletic teams led by upperclassmen captains and
compete  as teams throughout the fall semester. The most significant goal of this program has always been to foster a positive and inclusive departmental
culture, one that continues to create healthy relationships and mentorship for student-athletes.
