Zag Duo Earns Pair of All-American Honors at NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Rosina Machu (First Team) and Logan Hofstee (Honorable Mention) earned 10K All-American honors on Thursday

EUGENE, Ore. – Gonzaga women's track's Rosina Machu and Logan Hofstee capped off their impressive outdoor seasons with All-American honors Thursday at Hayward Field. The two raced in the 10,000-meter National Final, becoming the first Bulldogs to compete in the same NCAA final in program history.

"I'm honestly just so happy to get the chance to be out here and compete against some of the best athletes in this field today, and just super happy with how the race turned out," Machu said. "I knew going into this race, coach and I had a pre-race talk this morning and he said to me don't waiver just be yourself."

In a race that saw five athletes finish in under 32 minutes, Machu battled near the top with a seventh-place overall finish in 32:15.49, shattering her previous program-record in the process to earn First Team All-American honors. She follows a Second Team finish in 2024, wrapping her junior season among the nation's best distance runners.

"Patience was a big thing I learned this season. If you just stay patient enough you will find a spot in the race to make a move," Machu said. "Whatever you tell your mind your body will believe it, and I think it pushed me to keep going."

Making her NCAA Track & Field Championships debut and becoming the first Zag freshman to reach an NCAA Final, Hofstee placed 21st in 34:01.59 to earn All-American Honorable Mention honors. The Spokane-native wraps her first season in a GU jersey as the first Freshman All-American in program history.

New Mexico's Pamela Kosgei pulled away late in Thursday's final for a 15-second win, breaking the collegiate record with a time of 31:17.82. NC State's Grace Hartman led for the first half of the race before Kosgei took over around lap 16 of 25.
