MTEN Falls 4-1 to No. 67 Santa Clara in Season Finale

Zags (9-11, 1-6) conclude regular season with defeat at nationally-ranked Broncos

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – In Gonzaga's season finale, men's tennis (9-11 overall, 1-6 WCC) was defeated 4-1 by No. 67 Santa Clara.

The Broncos clinched the doubles point in Saturday's dual — held at the Degheri Tennis Center — by overcoming Giovanni Branchetti/Kai-Luca Ampaw (6-2) and Jay Fairclough/Nicholas Reeves (6-4). This was the season's first doubles defeat for Fairclough/Reeves, who opened the season 9-0 when paired up this Spring. Diego Herrera/Gus Krauel led 5-4 when the teams moved to singles.

Playing on their home courts, the Broncos notched two more points in singles, beating Reeves (6-2, 6-2) and Giovanni Branchetti (6-1, 6-3). The Bulldogs got on the board with Oscar Rashed's 6-4, 6-2 victory, however, Santa Clara survived Tom Dunlop 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the overall match. When the dual ended, Fairclough led in his third set and Ampaw was about to begin his.
