LAHAINA, Hawaii – The Gonzaga men's golf team closed their fall schedule with a 13
th place finish at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic Wednesday.
The Zags' 842 (-10) finish was the second-lowest team total for a 54-hole tournament in program history. The Bulldogs' opening round 276 (-8) matches the sixth-lowest 18-hole team total all-time at GU.
Jayden Lizama and
Ethan Flynn both had rounds of 66 (-5), which matches the eighth-lowest round in program history.
Lizama's 18
th place finish led Gonzaga in the annual event at the Royal Ka'anapali Course. He was nine-under (204) in the tournament. The freshman started with a 67 (-4) in Round 1, before an even-par (71) second round, and then the 66 (-5) final round.
Guillermo Polo Bodart was two-under (211) in 56
th place. He carded a 68 (-3) in the third round Wednesday. He was two-under (2.83) on the course's Par-3 holes, which ranked fourth in the 120-golfer field. Freshman
Michael Vienneau tied for 73
rd at one-over.
Flynn opened the event with his five-under (66) round on Day 1. His first round featured eight birdies and seven pars. The senior was four-over (217) in the tournament, tying for 88
th.
Charlie Olson was 99
th at seven-over (220).
Ryder Cowan led No. 21 Oklahoma to the team title with his medalist finish. He was 20-under (193) and held off TCU's Sam Udovich, who was 19-under (194). Oklahoma's Jase Summy was third at 18-under (195).
The Sooners had a 789 (-63) team total, while second place TCU was 51-under (801). Georgia placed third at 47-under (805).
Gonzaga starts its spring slate at the Bill Cullum Invitational Feb. 2-3. The event will be hosted by Cal State Northridge at the Saticoy Club in Somis, Calif. Live scoring will be available on GoZags.com.
