Rosina Machu and Willow Collins finish with less than one-tenth of a second of separation
SPOKANE, Wash. – In their final meet in Spokane of the season, Gonzaga women's track had an impressive day at the Whitworth Last Chance Meet at Boppell Track on Wednesday. Five new program top ten times were recorded, headlined by a photo-finish in the 1500-meter race from Willow Collins and Rosina Machu in which both ran under the previous program record.
Machu, Collins, and seven other Zags were first on the track for the day in the lone 1500m heat. It didn't take long for Machu and Collins to build a steady lead that only grew as the finish line neared. By the end, it was Machu (4:16.86) who edged Collins (4:16.93) by less than one-tenth of a second to earn the new program record, despite both girls running nearly two seconds faster than the previous mark.
Also in the 1500m, Brittney Hansen (4:24.79) and Anna Grabowski (4:27.19) dazzled the program top ten list, notching new seventh and eighth-fastest times, respectively.
Ashlinn Aguayo rounded out the fifth new program top ten time on Wednesday, this time in the 400-meter race. A 1:00.90 finish for Aguayo marked the eighth-fastest time in program history and improved her previous time by over two-and-a-half seconds.
Less than an hour later, Aguayo completed a perfect 2-for-2 PR day by setting a new best in the 200-meter with a 28.25 finish.
