
Track: Eight Zag Men Compete at Whitworth Twilight Meet

SPOKANE, Wash. – While a portion of the Gonzaga men's track team traveled to Azusa Pacific for the Bryan Clay Invitational this weekend, eight Zag men remained local for the Whitworth Twilight Meet at Boppell Track on Thursday.
Sean Janecko was first up on the afternoon, taking a crack at the 3000m steeplechase. Just a week after earning his most recent personal best, Janecko just missed a second PR, finishing in 9:42.65 on Thursday.
In the 1500m, Riley Moore and Nicky DiMartino also fell just short of new PRs with times of 4:05.01 and 4:06.10, respectively.
James Powers collected the first PR for Gonzaga on Thursday in the 800m, nearly breaking the two-minute mark with a 2:00.27 finish.
The evening concluded with the men's 5000m and four more Zags on the docket. Evan Bates was the highest GU finisher with a 15:06.24, third place finish. Luke Alfonso earned a PR with a time of 15:11.95, and Michael Lewis (15:23.89) and Caleb Richardson (15:28.93) finished back-to-back to round out the Gonzaga eight on the day.

The rest of the men's squad will be in California until Saturday at the Bryan Clay Invitational. The men and women will get a week off before traveling to the Midwest for the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa Apr. 24-27.
