McLain Signs With Men's XC/TF

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga Men's Cross Country and Track & Field Head Coach Pat Tyson announced the signing of Gabriel McLain on Tuesday. McClain is set to join the Zags next fall as the GU men look to continue their success as one of the top teams in the tough NCAA West Region.

McLain joins Gonzaga after placing third in the Illinois 1A State meet on Nov. 9 where he finished just five seconds behind the winner. On the track, McLain has personal bests of 1:55.00 (800m), 4:15.83 (1600m), and 9:09.71 (3200). McLain is a six-time Illinois State competitor and the 2024 Southern Illinois Runner of the Year.
"I chose Gonzaga because it's a place not like any other. They have the best coach on the planet with Coach Tyson and the best all-around team anyone could ever ask for! Dream come true," McLain said.
Tyson on McLain: "When Gabe came on his official visit, I could tell that this Midwest kid would easily fit into our team culture," Tyson said. "He loves Spokane and the surrounding natural beauty! He has that Midwest grit and brings in a great work ethic. Just excited to coach and mentor Gabe during his journey here in 'Zagland'.
