Zag Men's and Women's Squads Take Second at Inland Empire Classic

Paul Talens finished 7th overall; Anna Grabowski 9th
LEWISTON, Idaho — Gonzaga men's and women's cross country both placed second at the LC State-hosted Inland Empire Classic Saturday morning, led by a seventh-place finish from Paul Talens in the Men's 8K and a ninth-place finish from Anna Grabowski in the women's 6K.
Idaho swept the team totals for both races, with the Zags finishing ahead of Montana, LC State, Central Washington, Bushnell and Willamette in the men's team race and the women outpacing Montana, LC State, Willamette, Eastern Oregon and Central Washington.
Talens' 25:00 time led six Zags that finished in the Top 20 of the men's race, ahead of Sammy Geiger (eighth, 25:11), Will Thorsett (ninth, 25:13), Michael Lewis (14th, 25:29), Jaxon Mackie (16th, 25:32), and Carp Mukai (17th, 25:34). Quentin Rickey (27th, 26:17), Cam McCann (27:31) and James Powers (27:42) rounded out the rest of GU's men's contingent.
Likewise, Grabowski finished ahead of six GU women's runners in the Top 20 of the women's 6K, with Jasmine Nguyen (10th, 18:06), Alyssa Bienfang (11th, 18:13), Emily Phelps (12th, 18:20) just behind. They were followed by Paige Trautman (15th, 18:37), Anna Lanigan (19th, 18:55), Elizabeth Brands (23rd, 19:23), Kate Ferrell (19:32) and Jorun Downing (19:55).
