
Zags Sweep Women's and Men's Sasquatch Open Races

Emily Phelps, Sammy Geiger lead GU contingents
SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga men's and women's cross country swept both individual and team races at the CCS-hosted Sasquatch Open Wednesday, with Emily Phelps leading five Zags in the Top 10 of the women's 5K and Sammy Geiger pacing a 1-7 Zags sweep in the Men's 8K.
Phelp's 17:58.7 time, a personal best, was more than 30 seconds ahead of the rest of the field, with Anna Lanigan (second, 18:33.1), Jorun Downing (fourth, 18:54), Olivia Hobbs (eighth, 19:16.2) and Paige Trautman (10th, 19:24.6) making it five GU runners in the Top 10. Elizabeth Brands (11th, 19:29.6), Ava Knap (12th, 19:33.7) and Kate Ferrell (13th, 19:57.4) rounded out the rest of the Zags' contingent, with GU's 25 points in the women's 5K outpacing Eastern Washington (30) and Spokane CC (78). Lanigan and Downing's times were also personal bests.
In the men's 8K, Sammy Geiger put down a 24:13 time to lead the Zags' team sweep, with Nicky DiMartino (24:27.1), Paul Talens (24:40.3), Aidan Baughan (24:52.2), Jackson Lyne (24:52.4), Ansel Tucker (24:52.9) and Jaxon Mackie (25:09.8) finishing bunched up in succession behind him to finish with 15 points in the team total. Other GU men's runners included Michael Lewis (13th, 25:47), Wil Thorsett (15th, 26:08.2) and Quentin Rickey (16th, 26:11.1).
