
Piercy Breaks Indoor Mile Record

Mwaura runs second-fastest men’s mile
SEATTLE – Gonzaga's Aimee Piercy shattered the women's indoor mile program record at the Last Chance College Elite Meet hosted by the University of Washington Friday.
Piercy placed fifth in the event with a time of 4:45.48. She broke Lindsey Drake's previous program record of 4:54.92 set in 2012 at the Runners Soul Open in Moscow, Idaho. Piercy's previous personal record was 4:59.33. Marta Freitas of Brooks Beasts TC won Friday's race at 4:34.73. Washington's Shona McCulloch was the top collegiate finisher at 4:43.87.
This indoor season, Piercy set new mile, 800-meter (2:15.78) and 3,000-meter (9:34.86) program records.
The Bulldogs' James Mwaura ran the second-fastest indoor mile in GU men's history at 4:03.96. He placed sixth in the event. Willie Milam holds the program record at 4:01.67.
The Zags begin their outdoor slate at the Sam Adams Invitational hosted by Whitworth University in Spokane on March 19-20.
