Manley Named WCC Runner of the Week

Zag junior placed first at Cougar Classic
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Gonzaga women's cross country student-athlete Claire Manley was named the West Coast Conference Runner of the Week the league office announced Monday.
Manley won the women's race at the Cougar Classic Friday. On a windy afternoon at the Colfax Golf Club, the site of the NCAA West Regionals, Manley coasted to the win.
Her winning time of 21:04.8 ranks ninth in program history. She remained in front the majority of the race, crossing the line well ahead of second-place finisher Kyla Danforth (21:24.8) of Loyola Marymount.
Manley helped the Zags place second as a team, with five finishes in the Top-20.
Gonzaga's James Mwaura was tabbed honorable mention on the men's side. Mwaura and the GU men's cross country team defended their titles at the Cougar Classic Friday. Mwaura repeated as individual champion with a time of 24:07.4.
Tough challenges against some of the nation's best lie ahead for the Zags. The Gonzaga women travel to the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn., on Sept. 28. The Bulldog men have off until the Joe Piane Invitational on Oct. 4, in Notre Dame, Ind. Live coverage will be available for both races on GoZags.com.
