Zags Dominate 5K Races at Sam Adams Classic

SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga's Lauren Haas and William Thompson opened the Sam Adams Classic with first place finishes in the women's and men's 5,000-meter races at Whitworth Thursday.

Haas won the women's race with a time of 18:39.00. Amanda Kiefer was second at 18:43.21, while the Zags' Lauren Bourgeois crossed the line at 18:52.41 in third.

The Zags swept the top five spots of the men's race, led by Thompson's 14:56.96 finish. Dominic Arce (14:58.22) and Ciaran O'Leary (15:00.98) were second and third, followed by Bradley Rzewnicki and Sam McCloughan were fourth and fifth at 15:29.00 and 15:47.12.

Gonzaga returns to Whitworth Friday for Day 2 of the Sam Adams Classic. The Bulldogs open the day in the 1,500 meters at 4:10 p.m. Live video will be available on GoZags.com.
