Get to know Women's Rowing senior Lindey English
The SAAC Student-Athlete Spotlight is a weekly series that will highlight and promote senior Zag student-athletes on and off the playing field. This week's student athlete is Lindey English from the Women's Rowing Team.
Lindey is a Nursing major and currently hold a 3.38 GPA. Lindsey made the Deans List both semesters as a Junior, which is highly rewarding as a Nursing major. She also attends Zag Athlete Ministry and has a twin sister on the rowing team. We caught up with the senior rower from Seattle, Washington to gain some insight on her experience as a student-athlete at Gonzaga.
What are you hoping to do with your degree post-graduation?
I would love to go back to Seattle to work as an oncology or pediatric nurse.
What is your favorite memory as a Zag?
My favorite memory as a Zag was winning WCCs in 2017 and going on to NCAAs in New Jersey. We had had an especially tough year with lots of things we had to overcome and grind through. That made the victory even sweeter!
Favorite musical artist?
John Mayer
Favorite sports-related movie?
A League of their Own
What attracted you to Gonzaga?
Their four year nursing program and competitive rowing team. It was a perfect fit!
What do you enjoy most about playing this sport?
The best thing about rowing is the camaraderie and team focus. Rowing is all about trust and pulling your hardest for the girl in front of you, behind you, and all 8 others in the boat. You have to develop strong relationships and friendships to have this trust or the race won't go well. There is nothing like racing in a boat and feeling everyone giving 100% for each other.
A weird fact about you that people may not know?
I know how to ride a unicycle!
What team do you look most forward to when playing them and why?
I love racing Notre Dame. We get to see them about once or twice a year and every time we do it's a dog fight to the finish line. It's so fun to have a team that pushes you so much every time you see them because there is always mutual respect no matter what happens.
What are some of your team or personal goals?
Some team and personal goals are to continue our WCC winning streak and place top 15 at NCAAs.
How has being an athlete helped you in the classroom?
Being a student athlete is extremely hard, but it helps me stay organized and focused. I don't have time with two practices a day to not be efficient with the down time I do have.
