Zag women place seventh at Arturo Barrios Invite
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Claire Manley led the Gonzaga women's cross country team to a seventh-place finish at the Arturo Barrios Invitational Saturday. The redshirt junior placed 13th at the meet hosted by Texas A&M.
Manley moved up from ninth to seventh on the program's all-time list over a 6,000-meter course with a time of 20:49.9.
The Zags' Natasha Bernal was 47th in the field of 242 runners. She crossed the line at 21:40.6. Ally Legard climbed 16 spots over the last 2,000 meters of the race, finishing with a time of 21:54.4 in 58th.
Gonzaga's Brittney Hansen (22:03.6) and Makenna Edwards (22:03.6) ran together and placed 74th and 75th. Alicia Anderson was close behind in 78th at 22:09.7. Emily Phelps placed 99th with a time of 22:23.5.
Cal Baptist took the team title, placing its top five runners inside the Top-20. Florida's Jessica Pascoe was first at 20:00.4, while Eusila Chepkemei of Middle Tennessee State was second with a time of 20:15.5.
The GU women and men have a week off before the West Coast Conference Championships in Van Nuys, Calif. The races will be run at the Woodley Lakes Golf Course, beginning with the women's 6K at 10 a.m., and the men's 8K at 11. Live video and results will be available on GoZags.com.
