CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Gonzaga's Aimee Piercy ran the third-fastest 3,000-meter steeplechase time in women's program history at the Oregon State High Performance Meet Friday.
Piercy's 11:34.03 finish was 13th in the event. She ran an 11:34.16 at the Northwest Scoring Clash on April 7.
"The evening started with Aimee's second try at the steeple," GU women's Track and Field Head Coach Patty Ley said. "She settled for a little bit of a PR on tired legs."
In the women's 1,500 meters, Ally Legard was fourth in her heat with a time of 4:48.59. Claire Gillett finished at 4:59.68.
"Ally continued her steady improvement this season and I'm excited to see what happens next with her," Ley said.
Elena Slavoski led a quartet of Bulldogs in the 5,000 meters. She crossed the line at 18:00.83, placing seventh. Caroline McCarthy was ninth with a time of 18:01.22. Katherine Gustafson (18:27.85) and Amanda Kiefer (18:47.22) also ran in the event.
"In the second heat of the 5,000, the four ladies worked together over the first mile, but as the field spread Elena maintained the closest contact and stayed focused on matching the pace of the leaders," Ley said. "Caroline dropped a bit, but worked hard to stay in contact.
"It was a great meet and I'm pleased with what all the women did tonight. We're thankful for the leadership of Elena and the example she has set. She is a class act always and such a kind and wonderful person. She will be so missed!"
A select number of Gonzaga runners will head to Eugene for the Oregon Twilight next Friday. Live video and results will be available on GoZags.com.
