PULLMAN, Wash. - The Gonzaga Bulldogs swept the Washington State Cougars in the Fawley Cup for the third-consecutive season on Friday evening on the Snake River in Pullman.

The Zags won the varsity eight, second varsity eight, third varsity eight, and novice eight races for their 10th clean sweep since 2002. Because of predicted windy conditions on Saturday morning on the Snake River, the 29th Annual Fawley Cup was moved to Friday night. GU improved to 25-4 all-time in the Fawley Cup.

The varsity eight opened the night with a three-second win over WSU, coming home at 6:05.6, the third time the winner was determined by less than four seconds in the last four Fawley Cups. The second varsity eight won by five seconds at 6:14.4, winning their fourth-straight against WSU on the Snake River.

The third varsity eight comfortably won by 40 seconds at 6:26, moving to 3-0 in Pullman since 2002. The novice ended the night with a 30-second win finishing at 6:40.7, staying perfect in Pullman since 2002 at 9-0.

"It was good rowing by all boats," Gonzaga head coach Dan Gehn said. "The varsity eight wasn't very crisp, but we spent most of the week looking for a workable lineup. They didn't get flustered and pushed away in the last 750 meters."

The Zags stay busy to finish the month of April, facing Oregon State in a duel on Dexter Lake in Eugene, Ore. next Saturday.
