SEATTLE, Wash. - The Gonzaga Bulldogs competed in three loaded race fields at the Husky Open on the Montlake Cut on Saturday in Seattle.

The varsity eight was only four seconds behind (RV) Santa Clara at 6:15.007 with host No. 3 Washington winning at 5:47.835. The second varsity eight was nine seconds back of SCU at 6:35.902 and Washington won at 5:55.172. It was the second-fastest time for the varsity eight this spring.

The third varsity eight raced against Washington's fourth varsity eight and Washington State's second varsity eight. They came home at 6:36.433, three seconds behind WSU and 29 seconds behind Washington. It marked the second-fastest time for the Zags this year.

"That varsity eight had a really solid race," Gonzaga head coach Dan Gehn said. "They had another shot at Santa Clara and narrowed the gap from earlier this spring. They are getting more confident every race. The second varsity eight struggled this week and it showed in this race, even though we halved the earlier results against SCU. It was good, tight racing in the third varsity eight against WSU's second varsity eight."

In two weeks, the Zags will race in the prestigious Kerr Cup on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia for the second consecutive year.
