Get to know Women's Soccer senior Lucy Ferrari
The SAAC Student-Athlete Spotlight is a weekly series that will highlight and promote senior Zag student-athletes on and off the playing field. This week's student athlete is Lucy Ferrari from the women's soccer team.
She is an accounting major with a minor in Entrepreneurship and has been accepted into the masters of accountancy program for her senior year. We caught up with the senior defender from San Diego, Calif., to gain some insight on her experience as a student-athlete at Gonzaga.
What are you hoping to do with your degree post-graduation?
Get my CPA license and pursue forensic accounting.
What is your favorite memory as a Zag?
Winning against Pacific on senior night in 2016.
What does it mean to be a Zag?
Being a part of the greatest, most supportive community and knowing someone always has your back.
Favorite Sports Team?
San Francisco 49'ers.
Favorite musical artist?
Chris Lane.
Favorite food?
Hawaiian Pizza.
Favorite sports-related movie?
Kicking & Screaming.
If you could go on a vacation, where would you go and why?
South Africa to cage dive with great whites.
What attracted you to Gonzaga?
Strong accounting program, the women's soccer team and it was a school that felt like home if I was playing sports or not.
Favorite community service event at Gonzaga?
Trunk or Treat, because I get to see the adorable kids in their costumes and I am able to help those children get to experience Halloween with their families, which was always one of my favorite memories as a kid.
What do you like most about being a student-athlete at Gonzaga?
The support staff surrounding me through literally every hill or valley along my four years.
What do you enjoy most about playing this sport?
My teammates from my grade have become my sisters.
Do you have any pre-game/match rituals?
Chest bump with Ari Pumpelly.
Who is your role model and why?
My dad. His work ethic, drive, and service to his community & family even though he has no reason to inspires me every day.
A weird fact about you that people may not know:
My dad played for the San Francisco 49'ers and has a Super Bowl ring.

What were your first thoughts/feelings/emotions when competing as a Division 1 athlete for your first time?
This is everything I've worked for; I deserve to be here and give it my all. Also, don't mess up.
What team do you look most forward to when playing them and why?
USD, because I am from San Diego and it is always competitive.
What are some of your team or personal goals?
Leave a lasting Gonzaga legacy in any way I can.
How has being an athlete helped you in the classroom?
It has taught me responsibility, discipline, and time management.
What would you say is the hardest part of your sport?
Conditioning.
What is the biggest challenge as a student-athlete?
Time management, especially during season and travel trips.
Why is community service important to your role as a student-athlete at Gonzaga?
Helps you remember the community around you and how they support you. It feels good to help support them because they are such a big part of the student athlete experience.
What advice do you have for prospective Gonzaga student-athletes?
Come play Gonzaga women's soccer! You'll meet your lifelong friends and sisters. Never regretted it for a second.
