
Perrin's Phenomenal Freshman Year Ends at Prelims

RESULTS
AUSTIN, Texas -- Gonzaga's Jake Perrin completed his freshman season with a 39th-place finish in the men's 5,000-meter semifinals at the NCAA West Preliminaries Saturday. He crossed the line at 15:24.27 at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.
Tulsa's Marc Scott won the second of the two heats with a time of 14:33.42. The top five times from each heat, along with the next two fastest times, advanced to the national finals in Eugene, Ore. Seven runners from Heat 1 qualified for the national final. Grant Fisher of Stanford had the fastest time in the first heat at 14:12.79.
Perrin squeaked into the field with a time of 14:04.82, the third-fastest time on the GU all-time list and best-ever as a Bulldog freshman. The Lakeside, Mont. native, was seeded 47th in the field, while his brother Zach, a junior at Colorado, was 12th at 13:46.09. Zach qualified for the national finals with a second place finish in the heat at 14:33.84.
Troy Fraley will be the first-ever GU men's runner at the national championships, competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase semifinals on June 7, in Eugene. The first of two heats begins at 5:02 p.m. Pacific Time. Live video and results will be available on GoZags.com.
