MROW Finishes Season Strong at Western Sprints

SACRAMENTO, Calif. â€" The Gonzaga men's rowing team wrapped up its spring season on Saturday at the Western Sprints Regatta on Lake Natoma in Sacramento, Calif., with a strong showing.
The Zags battled UC San Diego, Oklahoma City, San Diego and Santa Clara throughout the afternoon, placing in the top four in all three races with a pair of second-place finishes. The Second Varsity 8 and Third Varsity 8 each took second, while the Varsity 8 placed fourth in one of the tightest races on the day.
"I was really happy with our intensity and performance today," head coach Dan Gehn said. "It has been an up and down learning year, which has ended on a high note."
In the Varsity 8 race, GU posted a time of 6:18.7, but was under five seconds out of second place with Santa Clara winning at 6:08.2, followed by Oklahoma City at 6:14.0 and UCSD at 6:18.7.
The Second Varsity 8 held off USD and Santa Clara in its race, coming in just six seconds off the lead with a time of 6:23.4. UCSD was first in the race at 6:17.8
In the Third Varsity 8, Gonzaga came in nine seconds behind top finisher UCSD, but held off Santa Clara in the last 500 meters to take second place with a time of 6:33.0.
The race wraps a strong spring season for Gonzaga.
