SILVER LAKE, Wash. - Gonzaga's men's rowing team will race at home for the final time this season against Washington State at Silver Lake, Wash., on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
"This race provides us a great opportunity to get down the course one more time and iron out anything we might need to before our regional championship on May 16 in Sacramento," head coach Dan Gehn said.
Fresh off a scrimmage against the University of Washington, Gonzaga is back on the water for a regular season regatta for the first time since traveling to Washington, D.C., for the George Washington Invitational. There the Zags put forth solid efforts on back-to-back days in duals against GW, Georgetown and Holy Cross. The Second Varsity 8+ took a race victory by 5.5 seconds in its dual with Holy Cross on the first day.
Gonzaga will put four boats on the water in the 2,000-meter sprint against Washington State, starting with the Varsity 8+ at 9 a.m. The Second Varsity 8+ and Third Varsity 8+ will start in 15-minute increments following the V8. Then the Novice 8+ will hit the water at 10:15 a.m. to wrap up the day.
Earlier this year, the Zags and Cougars squared off on the Spokane River, with Gonzaga sweeping four head-to-head races, including V8, 2V8, N8 and V4 on the 5,000-meter course.
The dual with WSU is the final tuneup for GU before the Western Sprints in Sacramento, Calif., on Saturday, May 16.
