
Gonzaga Places Three on All-Academic Teams

SAN BRUNO, Calif.—The Gonzaga University men's tennis team placed three of its members on West Coast Conference All-Academic teams Thursday, April 30, with two seniors earning All-Academic honors and one more nabbing All-Academic Honorable Mention.
Both Alvaro Nazal and Nick Kamisar took were tabbed as WCC All-Academic with Nazal earning the title for the second time in his career. The graduating redshirt junior has a 3.84 GPA while double majoring in accounting and finance, also earning WCC All-Academic in 2013. Nazal leads Gonzaga as one of the most decorated tennis players in school history. He's the only Zag in recent memory to win 75 career singles matches - which he did in just over three seasons - and he's the only one to play at the ITA All-American Championships and to receive an ITA national ranking. This season, Nazal also became the first GU player to reach the semifinals of the ITA Northwest Regionals, and he posted 25 total singles wins throughout the year, two off his single-season record set in 2012-13. The Santiago, Chile, native also earned First Team All-WCC in singles play and All-WCC Honorable Mention in doubles.
Meanwhile, Kamisar picked up his first academic honor in his only year of eligibility for the award. The senior held a 3.68 GPA as a finance major through his two years at Gonzaga. He's posted 36 singles wins and 30 doubles victories in that time. This season, he led the squad with 19 doubles wins and tied for second with 18 individual victories. A native of Sammamish, Wash., Kamisar swept the EWU Fall Classic by winning both the singles and doubles brackets, and he also won the pairs draw at the GU Fall Tournament. During his final home match, he earned his first ever win over a ranked opponent, dispatching No. 67 Filip Vittek of San Diego in three sets. He was named All-WCC Honorable Mention for doubles play this season after earning Honorable Mention in singles last year.
Receiving WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention in 2015, Vladimir Mijatovic earned his second academic award from the conference after getting named to the All-Academic team last season. A business administration major, Mijatovic has kept a 3.41 GPA through his time at Gonzaga while working towards a degree in business administration. He wrapped up his collegiate career with exactly 50 singles wins, reaching the mark during Gonzaga's opening round win over Santa Clara in the WCC Tournament. Additionally, he posted a career-high 18 individual victories as a senior, tying for second on the team with Kamisar. The Belgrade, Serbia, native also won a career high 12 dual matches, including contests against opponents from Idaho, Loyola Marymount, Pacific, and Brigham Young.
