
Milam Breaks Record ? Again to Open Season

SEATTLE - Last year at the University of Washington Preview, Gonzaga men's track student-athlete, Willie Milam broke the school's 3,000-meter record to begin the season. He did the same thing again Saturday.
Milam ran an 8:07.79 last year at the UW Preview; he finished at 8:07.66 Saturday. The senior placed fifth in a very talented field of 52 runners. He had the second best collegiate finish. Oregon's Matt Jablonski won the event with a time of 8:03.73. Troy Fraley's 8:21.77 is the fourth fastest time in GU history. He placed third in the second heat.
In the men's mile, Brandon Pollard ran the second fastest time in program history. He also placed second in his heat, crossing the line at 4:10.69. Andy Phillips ran a 4:11.76, fourth on the all-time list. It was also a personal record by three seconds.
Phillips would later anchor the men's 4x800-meter relay to a new program record of 7:51.50. His strong finish moved the Bulldogs from sixth in the race to third. His split was 1:53.13. The Gonzaga foursome consisted of Jerry Sicalo, Ned Fischer, Pollard, and Phillips.
In the women's 3,000 meters, the Zags had three runners finish with personal records. Shelby Mills placed 12th with a time of 9:51.08. Amelia Evans came in 16th with a time of 9:53.66 and Jessica Mildes' 9:55.46 was 20th.
Emily Anderson had a personal record time of 1:39.72 in the 600 meters. After recently coming back from an injury, she placed second in her heat. Molly Stroosma also had a PR in the 600 with a time of 1:43.84.
Making her collegiate track debut, Claren Fraher placed eighth in her 800-meter heat. She crossed the line at 2:25.58. The Bulldog 4x800-meter relay team of Olivia Evans, Kelly Williams, Maggie Riley, and Lauren Saunders finished at 10:09.48.
Gonzaga returns to the track Friday at the Idaho Collegiate in Moscow. Running events begin with the women's mile at 12 p.m. Pacific.
