CHENEY, Wash. - Heavy rainfall caused the Gonzaga University women's tennis team to play late into the evening at the Washington State Cougar Classic Saturday with all matches moving from the 12 outdoor courts to the four indoor courts.
Due to the wet conditions, matches were played until nearly midnight Saturday evening. Because of the delay, the Bulldogs were forced to be patient on what turned out to be a long final day of competition.
Kylie Peek, who advanced to the quarterfinals of the Crimson Singles Flight Friday, fell to top seed Elizaveta Luzina (Washington State) 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in her lone match. Luzina advanced to the finals of the draw and will play for the championship Sunday.
Katie Edwards won her Crimson Consolation match. She took down Paulina Lopez (Montana State University) 6-2, 6-0. In the lower half of the consolation draw, Samantha Polayes won her match. She ousted Anna Lambert (Seattle University) 6-2, 6-2.
Franziska Koehler, playing in the Gray Consolation, defeated Marina Reimers (University of Portland) 6-4, 6-2.
Saturday's action concluded Gonzaga's weekend of play. Inclement weather is expected all day Sunday with all remaining matched moving indoors.
