Women's Tennis Wraps Up Season With San Francisco

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University wrapped up its regular season Saturday with a 6-1 defeat to University of San Francisco at the Spokane Racquet Club. The Zags won the doubles point but had an off day in singles competition.
The spring season ends with the Zags going 9-12 overall and 0-8 in West Coast Conference contests.
The Bulldogs will look to build on winning the doubles point for the WCC Championships that begin Apr. 24. At the No. 1 doubles position, Kylie Peek and Katie Edwards sailed past Sofia Holmberg and Andrea Ka 8-2. The duo had a great spring showing by going 8-6 together in the No. 1 spot.
At No. 2 the freshman tandem of Samantha Polayes and Melanie Yates topped Milic Hadzi-Tanovic and Yurie Hashiguchi 8-4. The duo also wraps up the spring with an 8-6 record.
It was also senior day for the Bulldogs as Britta Stime, Taurie Bjerken and Prue Teitzel all leave the squad after the season. Stime played No. 5 and dropped 6-0, 6-2 to Brooke Irish and Bjerken saw action as the No. 6 falling to Hashiguchi 6-1, 6-1.
Teitzel did not compete due to an injury suffered earlier in the year.
The Zags will shift its attention to the WCC Championship at Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. Tournament standings will be released with the completion of all WCC regular season contests.
