Indoor Track Wins Two Races At Idaho Collegiate

Moscow, Idaho - The Gonzaga University track team made quite the impression at the Idaho Collegiate Indoor by winning two competitions Saturday.
"Today was another great stepping stone that we can keep building on," assistant coach Patty Ley said. "This is a great way to keep training and getting the hard work done. Days like this will give us more motivation for the spring."
Both victories came in women's events. The Zags finished first through third in the 3000 meter race with Lara Tuthill (10:40.19), Becca Barad (10:42.24) and Taylor Cherry (10:45.66) setting the pace.
The other victory came in the mile. Zoe Urcadez and Krista Beyer finished one and two with times of 5:17.55 and 5:17.55, respectively.
For the men, the Bulldogs placed second through thirteenth in the mile. Conor McCandless took second with a time of 4:18.30 followed by Andy Phillips (4:22.25) and Alex Foote (4:23.37).
Joe LaMontagne set the second fastest time in program history with a 1:55.86 in the 800 meter race. LaMontage placed fourth and the next Zag to finish was Ian Goldizen (1:58.71) who took ninth.
For the first time in program history Gonzaga competed in the 4X400 meter race. The men's team of Foote, LaMontagne, Danny Lunder and Andy Phillips placed second with a time of 3:30.43.
The women's team of Alexa Foley, Jordan McCann, Kelsey Tracy and Kelly Williams finished third with a time of 4:23.58.
"Our goal was to go down, get out of the snow and get some good race workouts in," head coach Pat Tyson said. "We got a lot of guys in and they came out and performed. We met our goal."a
