EUGENE, Ore. - Gonzaga University's Nick Roche finished seventh in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase Saturday, while the Bulldogs Patrick Richie, running unattached, was sixth as Gonzaga concluded its participation in the Oregon Relays.
There was one adjustment made from Friday's results in the men's 5000 meters. The Bulldogs Robert Walgren originally appeared on the results as having not competed, but it is believed his timing chip did not activate and a review of the race tape placed Walgren 10th in a career-best 14:43.08. That broke his previous best of 14:53.64 at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival two weeks ago.
Roche, a freshman running his fourth steeple in his young career, posted a career best of 9:35.13 while Richie finished in 9:30.29, also a career best for the junior who is redshirting this season.
The Bulldogs, who turned in strong performances that included school records in the 5000 meters by Emily Thomas and the 1500 meters by Catherine Theobald on Friday, will next compete in the Duane Hartman Invitational next weekend at Spokane Falls Community College.
